Advent Reading Guide | Week 4

The story of Advent begins in the Old Testament. The fact of progressive revelation is that of the revealing of the Messiah through prophets and time. From Genesis chapter 3, we were on God’s heart and mind. This leaves us as His creation without doubt of His great love for us, even in our failure.  Join us for a journey back to the promises of the Old Testament and see them revealed right before your eyes, not just in the event of Advent but in the person of Jesus.

Sunday, Dec 22nd | Pastor Mark

  • Read: Isaiah 11:1-5, Acts 13:23

  • Reflect and Discuss

When you read Isaiah 11:1 what does that verse say to you?

How does Jesus bring life to what is dead?

How does this prophecy from Isaiah apply to Advent?

Read Isaiah 12 in its entirety over you and your family.

Monday, Dec 23rd

  • Read: Matthew 2:1-2

  • Pray: Jesus, you are worthy of all worship and honor. I pray that in all that I do I would seek you first and glorify you. Help me to be a light in this world that draws seekers to you for your glory.

Tuesday, Dec 24th | Christmas Eve

  • Read: Matthew 2:10-11

  • Pray: Lord, help me to respond to the gift of Jesus Christ just as the wise men did- to rejoice exceedingly with great joy, falling down in worship. As I remember the expectant waiting for Christ on this Christmas Eve, help me to never grow numb to the gift of your son, remembering the miracle of his birth, life, death, and resurrection. Lord Jesus, you deserve joyous praise forevermore.

Wednesday, Dec 25th | Christmas Day

  • Read: John 3:16

  • Pray: Heavenly Father, as I celebrate today the birth of Jesus Christ, would I not allow the traditions, festivities, or presents to overshadow the joyous occasion of your Son’s birth. Thank you for sending your Son to die for us, to raise again, and provide new life for His followers.
