Advent Reading Guide | Week 2

The story of Advent begins in the Old Testament. The fact of progressive revelation is that of the revealing of the Messiah through prophets and time. From Genesis chapter 3, we were on God’s heart and mind. This leaves us as His creation without doubt of His great love for us, even in our failure.  Join us for a journey back to the promises of the Old Testament and see them revealed right before your eyes, not just in the event of Advent but in the person of Jesus.

Sunday, Dec 8th | Pastor Mark - Son of God

  • Read: Psalm 2:7-9, Mark 1:11

  • Reflect and Discuss:

How does the incarnation of the Son (begotten) change the daily moments of your life?

How does Psalm 2:7-9 encourage you to pray?

Discuss how Jesus is portrayed as the King in Psalm 2:8.

Monday, Dec 9th

  • Read: Matthew 1:18-19

  • Pray: Heavenly Father, I take time in this moment to acknowledge that you have a supreme plan for this world; a plan greater than I could ever imagine. I submit my wants, desires, and dreams to you. Would you shape me and mold me into a vessel that is used by you to bring about your glory.

Tuesday, Dec 10th

  • Read: Matthew 1:20-25

  • Pray: Heavenly Father, help me to obey as Joseph does, even when I don’t fully understand the circumstances. Help me to be attentive to your words and follow in obedience.

Wednesday, Dec 11th

  • Read: Matthew 2:4-6

  • Pray: Jesus, thank you for being my Shepherd. Help me to yield and submit to your plan for my life. Help me to trust you more today as I follow you with a softened heart.

Thursday, Dec 12th

  • Read:  Luke 2:1-5

  • Pray: Father your ways are higher than my own, the works of your hands are too great for me to fully understand. Bring rest upon my heart as I depend solely upon you. Move me to a place of trust in your plans, to follow you down whatever roads you call me to travel.

Friday, Dec 13th

  • Read: Luke 2:6-7

  • Pray: Lord Jesus, I thank you that although you are the King of Kings, you willingly chose to be born in such a humble position. Help me to cultivate more space for you to be at home in my life during this Advent season. Amen.

Saturday, Dec 14th

  • Read: Luke 2:8-11

  • Pray: Heavenly Father, Thank you for the good news of great joy which is for all people, your son Jesus. Thank you that you did not leave us dead in our sins, but purposed from the foundation of the world, to give Jesus as the Good Shepherd the perfect Lamb.
